Ahmedabad: A girl gazing into nowhere, sitting on the one of the red-brick arches that define the magnificent architecture of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) campus. A day in the life of an IIM-A student is now in oils.
Painted by alumnus Lira Priyadarsani, these are not just works of art but a sneak peek into the lives of students right from admissions to the placement procedure.
The captivating Harvard Steps, quiet Louis Kahn Plaza or a scene from late night hours spent at canteen or hostel dorms — all of these are there
in vivid colours. Lira who graduated from IIMA in 1993, will be putting up her works at the exhibition gallery at Center for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship building in IIM-A. She is the first artist to put her works in the gallery which will be launched on September 25. “This is a collection of my memories at the institute. It includes the spots on campus which grew special over time,” she says, adding, “It was in July last year that I sat with these sketches and decided to make them into oil paintings.
Lira is based in New Delhi now and an assistant director at Tech Mahindra. She visited the campus after a decade in January 2009 when she shared her work with a faculty member, professor Sunil Handa, after which this exhibition was planned.
