The bricks, the Louis Kahn Windows are more relatable with more esoteric things than the reality and rationalized conclusions based study of management. Hence the bricks and the Louis Kahn window with me sitting on it is the perfect painting to depict the nostalgia.

The official entry into IIM A are the Harvard Steps. Climbing the Harvard Steps is almost like climbing  Mount Everest the first time one reaches IIM A, as a student or teacher. Of course one cannot at that point imagine the sleepless nights and endless days of slogging to follow. At that point it is jubiliation.

The unofficial entry to the dorms and classrooms, it has a special place. The perfect place to sit and talk, and gossip. With CR1’s window looming behind like a giant Cyclops keeping watch on everything.

To forget the world is to stand in the glory of the magnificence of LKP. Framed by giant windows of the library on one side, classrooms on the other and professors rooms in yet another; LKP has stood witness to nearly 50 years of convocations, welcome nights, intercombos, garba and frisbee matches. It holds a a special place in my heart

Ashish Goyal enthu cutlet was always in danger to being murdered  for this. Rumours of a MANAC quiz at 2, and Ashish putting CP at 5 mins to 1. The classrooms were the site of Prof Jain’s Nirdosh case study, the flashy tie competition and the arbit CP contests.

My marketing group had my closest friends from campus. Suru and Vijay holding fort with Saku countering. Arun (Motu) butting in to put forth his point and Neerja listening. Ved looks on trying to find space to add to the discussion. I was of course dying to sleep because the meeting  had crossed my 12 o' clock deadline.

Red arches holding up buildings, hugging the corners of the dorms. Sturdy, solid and yet delicate. The wonder of IIM A’s arches are numerous and across various areas and view points on campus. They start off as mazes that one gets lost in and build into celebrations of what the campus is about.

There had to be a water fight before WAC submission, or even before the exams. One guys’ dorm would steal the fuses of the electrical connections of the girls' dorms and come armed with water balloons and buckets. And the girls would give it back.

Once a year LKP would light up and be ablaze with colour. Green grass contrasting with bright pinks, blues, reds, yellows etc, all dancing to an ancient rhythm.

CR1 was the entrance of the classrooms with its large Cyclops. The D9 party was the first one on the ramp in our two years. Every guys' dorm would want to host a “different” party.

One o clock Saturday afternoon once a quarter in year 1, one could see people racing with just one purpose – submit the WAC paper within 1pm. Having stayed awake the night and worked through till the time to run, most people scrambled to submit. People in shorts, in night dresses, not having taken a bath or having a shave – all running.

When I finally learnt to stay up for marketing meetings I discovered the Night Retreat (NR) open from 10 pm - 2 am. We went for coffee after the meeting with someone sponsoring the coupons.

Placement is trial by fire - a time of joy and tears simultaneously. Everyone dressed to their nines and looking dapper, handsome and smart as the case may be. But emotions ran deep with true colours and true friends being sifted.
