The entry into the new campus of IIM A strikes to be so different from the old campus at first sight. Yet like Google’s style of search was appropriate when it came, so too the stark exposed concrete style is appropriate now – providing a blank canvas to create anything from

The library was one of my favourite places on campus – not inside it, but outside it; to have chai and gupshup overlooking the vast LKP.Medium: Oil on canvas

The IMDC showcases exactly how linked the old and the new campuses are: with the modern take of the IIM logo, one can see the tree of knowledge and the typical arch in a whole new avaatar.Medium: Oil on canvas

Dorm 13 has this unique view to give from the passageway between the classrooms and the library. At night with all the lights on it is an interesting feature with the ramp in front.Medium: Oil on canvas

The CIIE building appropriately has four LK windows to let in light air and ideas – just the right space for entrepreneurship to blossom and bloom.Medium: Oil on canvas

The auditorium added on later on to the campus is an indicator of the interpretation of the LK windows that would show up in the old campus. The scene of many events, this remains a favourite of the slightly newer batches.Medium: Oil on canvas

An interesting view between two blocks of the IMDC – combining the grace of the exposed concrete with the iconic brick walls and faux Louis Kahn windows – almost surreal.Medium: Oil on canvas

The girls’ dorm that has always been the girls’ dorm stands at the juncture of the classrooms and the way to the mess and dining hall; almost a welcome “home”.Medium: Oil on canvas

The newer classrooms and seminar rooms on the new campus show a clear combination of the old and the new – the faux LK windows along with the new cast iron architectural piece. What adds the interesting element are the champa flowers which provide the contrast with green and whiteMedium: Oil on canvas

This is probably the least remembered architectural feature of the campus because of two reasons. The first one is because many of us did not spend enough time inside the library to remember it. And of the many who actually did, they were too focsed doing mugga that they do not remember it.
The only times I remember being in the library for long was when the temperatures were soaring and the only respite was in the library which was air conditioned.

My favourite pass time in Dorm 5 on hot October days, was to dunk unwary passersby, and hide. The passage way was on the “main street” linking the dorms to the classrooms and mess and hence just the ideal place for this.Medium: Oil on canvas

The backside of Dorm 18 is probably the one location which most students will have a photo of. This being the palace where the graduates after their convocation gather for their batch passing out photograph.Medium: Oil on canvas

The site of many late night matches among the badminton enthusiasts. This place has been witness to many bets, fights and wins.Medium: Oil on canvas

The staircases and the doorways into the classroom block on the old campus in inspiring in its juxtaposition of current and future (flight of stairs)Medium: Oil on canvas

The passage way beneath Dorm 11 and beyond is actually the “ground floor”. But for us in the dorms on the old campus it was “basement”.1052 Sector A Pocket A
